Tom Newport is a Cedar Rapids native who graduated from Cornell College in 1977. Since returning to his roots, he has been living and working at building his jewelry design and sculpture business.

His fabricated stainless steel sculptures are often outwardly abstract but are closely linked to nature and reality. The energy and vitality expressed in his compositions reflect a subtle inner strength and spirit that expand and interact gracefully with space and the surrounding environment.

 According to Newport "Wind Dance" plays with our vision and our perception. Although it is made of rigid steel, its perforation and shape of a wave form bring  out the breezy feeling of flowing with the wind. It provides us with a view of solid form that flows like a dance as we move around it.
