sculpture
Quarter Luna

by Tom Newport
Cedar Rapids, IA

“This piece started from an assembly of cutouts procured from the metal recycler. My vision began with the central piece, surrounded by a lunar calendar with phases of the moon. Thoughts of spring planting and the affects of the moon on crops all played a part in the conception of this piece. The placement of the circles in the openings also filters sunlight and creates changing patterns of crescents as the sun moves through the sky.”
